There are those who live in a vacuum of self-reliance who feel they are the exception to the rule. They believe themselves to be galvanized with a special superhuman shield of invincibility that allows them to escape temptations and the grip of sin that would quickly displace other mortals. This presumption is often built on an egotistical theory that God has granted some special dispensation for them to be experiments of high exposure to forbidden things without consequence.
Others throughout history thought themselves to be the exception to the rule. Cain stood before God with fruit stains on his hands and a confident grin stretched on his face thinking that God would make an exception to his sacrifice because he had put imagination into it. But in the end it was simply a defiant gesture tossed at God’s doorstep of approval. The sacrifice was denied, and Cain was left with humiliation for attempting to twist God’s arm with a demonstration of pride when God was merely looking for the display of obedience. God wanted blood while Cain assumed God would settle for a bargain. God is not to be bought but obeyed. Listen now…
