We are not automatons of religion. We are flesh and blood. God wants a deep relationship with us. Psalm 42 deals with depth of sorrow and depth of revelation. The Psalmist longs for the Presence of God. He is confined in unfriendly environs. He is absent from the familiar territory of the House of God. He is in enemy territory. Doubts abound. Deceivers encroach. Hatred boils. There is no common ground concerning the things of God. But the seeker yearns for the altar and the laver of cleansing and the lights of eternal hope. He wants to be in the tabernacle of the Lord. He parallels the thirst of a panting dear searching for the water brook with our earnest desire to be near God. Listen now…
