Psalm 4:6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
- It is sometimes difficult to find the good among the godless. Or to see prosperity when you have endured persecution. No one readily cheers, “Hip, Hip, Hooray, for all the pain my enemy has caused me.” Yet in one moment when God smiles upon you; in that one turning moment when his favor is seen despite all the fury enacted against you; it is the confidence booster that the souls desperately needs. His smile negates the adversary’s frown. His favor cancels out the countenance of evil bent on your destruction.
- I believe this indicates that the Presence of the Lord literally changes your countenance. It takes the saint from frowns of fear and failure to healthy expressions of joy. This is like ominous clouds breaking away for fresh, warm sunlight.
- The word “good” means “that which is pleasing, valuable, or useful.” Prosperity and happiness are also appropriate synonyms. Listen now…
