Exo 14:10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.
Think about it. The thing you just got away from comes running after you. Pharaohs of temptation. Chariots of addiction. Egyptian slavery of hate, anger, bitterness and pride. They won’t seem to just go away. And when Pharaoh draws nigh, faith seems to depart. Your confidence weakens. Your hopes faint. Your vision of a better tomorrow gets blurred by what’s behind you.
Yes, the Egyptians marched after them. Soldiers of war. Intimidating whip holders of the past. Superior weapons. Battle knowledge. Blood thirsty swords and spears. Un-tempered fury for combat. I mean what were sheep going to do against these wolves?
Somewhere out there, in the distance was a Land flowing with milk and honey; but right now they could only envision their own blood raining to the grounds, to a wilderness graveyard; they were supposed to get their own territory with their name on it, but it appeared at this moment, the Red Sea gurgled and sloshed in front of them; the armies of Egypt came in waves behind them.
They were now stuck between the devil and the dawn. They saw the worst. This is a timeless dilemma. One unexpected change in the circumstance and we believe the whole thing is coming apart.
Since the fall of man darkness has encroached, sin has ruled hearts, wickedness has evolved from generation to generation. Plagues and earthquakes have decimated populations. Fires and storms have plummeted lands. Death has feasted on the carnage of war. The devils are marching after us. Hell hath enlarged her mouth.
In 547 the Justinian Plague hit our world and claimed over 50 percent of the European population in a two hundred year period.
Then in the 1300s the Black Death another 50 million lives were claimed by a similar microbe that existed 800 years earlier.
Then in 1519 smallpox killed over 8 million in Mexico.
In 1633 smallpox showed up in Massachusetts and estimates are upwards to 20 million in casualties.
The Spanish flu of 1918 killed over 50 million.
HIV has claimed at least 39 million since the early 1980s.
There have been seven Cholera pandemics in the last 200 hundred years.
And now we face modern day COVID-19…there has been much devastation and loss, and we stand between the Devil and the Dawn.
At some point God brings His Voice and the Vision together.
Exo 14:13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. Listen now…
