The Last Call

 We are in a dark place. You need a light. Jesus is the light that shines in a dark place. The inky night obscures the starry heavens with blackened blankets, charred of hell, smothering hope, and keeping silent the fearful and afraid. This is the cloak of the great deceiver, and Satan is on the loose. He is the most devious perpetrator of all time. He is a gleeful killer that is never satiated. He seeks to steal, kill, and destroy. He is a poisonous breath from sulfurs of evil. He is a snare to dreamers and a web weaver to the arrogant. He is darkness. But light shines in a dark place. Back off demons, the lamp of truth just walked through the door. Run for your nebulous cover of mischievous domains, and hide in your night-crawler cellars of eternal indignity; you are bested by the Daystar, you are banished by the fire that burned in Horeb’s bush, you are burned in the radiant shafts of Holiness that stream down from a throne situated above all sickness, sin, and death.

Jesus can deliver you from the shadows of fear, cast against the midnight walls of dread. He can take your hands and lead you out of darkness into marvelous light.

Isa 60:1  Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. 

Isa 60:2  For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. 

Isa 60:3  And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. 

Some men won’t get out of the darkness, because they love darkness rather than light. They would rather stumble in the night with devilish creatures and sightless assurance only a few feet from the edge of eternity; they would rather do that than walk on the lighted path of safety, security, peace, and everlasting prosperity. They whisper their perverted secrets in the dark, but at the shout of a Coming Christ they will be exposed and grief stricken.

You see, at the day of the Lord, the sun is rising and the sun is setting at the same time. How can that be? Sunrise in NYC was at 6:37 this morning; half way around the world at roughly the same time, within a few minutes, the sun was setting at 6:37 PM in Hong Kong. So, my friend, when the Lord comes you can’t be on the wrong side of the Word, on the opposite side of His will, half way around worldliness, living in time zones of iniquity and lawlessness. You need to be in sync with Him. For there will be a sunrise for the saved, but a sunset for the unsaved; at the same time. It is the great & terrible day of the Lord. Listen now…

Cross the Bridge before He Comes

A Jesus bridge between two mountains over fire.

We use an idiom in the English language, “no need to cross the bridge before it comes”. This means not to worry excessively about something that hasn’t happened yet; certainly, good advice in most situations. But I want to rework this idiom today for spiritual purposes, for spiritual awareness, and for certain readiness, especially as it pertains to the coming of the Lord. Jesus is coming soon and there is a bridge we need to cross before He comes. Let’s talk about the bridge. The Calvary bridge, and how it began and why it was needed.

First, let’s visit an impressive bridge in history. The Eads bridge of St. Louis, MO. It was the first bridge south of the Missouri River to cross the MS river. Construction began on the ambitious project in 1867. Andrew Carnegie, owner of Keystone Bridge Co funded the project and hired famous engineer and namesake of the bridge, James Buchanan Eads to design and construct it.

At the time it was built it was the largest endeavor of American history. It’s longest span reaches 520 feet, and was the first to use manufactured steel, produced by Carnegie. Finished by 1874 it became an engineering marvel of the world. Contained in the eye catching site was 2,390 tons of steel, 3,156 tons of wrought iron, 806 tons of timber decking, and 97, 571 cubic yards of limestone masonry.  

  • Extending more than 100 ft below water level, the foundations for Eads Bridge were the deepest underwater constructions of their time. Comparatively, the foundations of the cross-bridge were extended beneath the foundations of the earth before time, the deepest of time and eternity.
  • Carnegie was 33 when it was decided that steel would be used to support the bridge, it was the fulfillment of an ambitious dream. Someone else was 33 when the materials of his sacrifice was used to build a different kind of bridge. A soul bridge. A bridge of eternity and eternal significance. A bridge that would span between lost mankind and a holy God.

But we have to examine where it all started. We must see…

Chasms. Separations. So many of them. And only one of them. Sin division. Misery multiplication. Soul subtraction. The sum of all time and eternity lies in the land between. Who will go? What brave soul will venture into enemy territory? What love stronger than fear will push through smoke and fire if hell to win if but just one?

Rotten fruit lay beneath forgotten trees of paradise. Destiny’s ruin. Hope’s casualty. Death’s initiation.

And the chasm is growing. The grace more distant. The memory fading. Perfection erased by lawlessness.

He’s getting too far away. The gap is widening. Wickedness is relentless. They eat. They drink. But they have no regard for God. They marry and give in marriage but they have no thought of the true Creator. They bow to idols. They shine the gold of false gods. They burn fires and sacrifice their own babies to deities that are in truth masked devils.

One of God’s first bridges was conscience, but man seared it with violence and endless inventions of evil, so he washed out the bridge with flood waters of judgment. Then God built a bridge of covenant. He called a venerable man Abraham from crowded kingdom of false gods, showed him stars of promise and gave him assurances that his seed would be the carriers of Divine hopes. Listen now…
