Beware of Dogs 2020

The dogs of this generation are barking. They drool from deadly mouths. Blood stained fangs threaten. Growls from the pits of hell can be heard in every dark alley of sin. Angry. Ferocious. Uncontrollable. Rabid in their self righteousness. Biting mad in their hatred of holiness. Unchained. They are Roaming violent predators without conscious or moral restraint. No one can tell them different. No one can command these vicious Gospel mutilators to heel or stay. They will devour in an instant. They will kill any vestige of authority in a moment. Truth will never tame them. Love will never lead them. Conviction will never corral them. They bark and bite and blaspheme and bitterly moan at any kind of fence or restriction or Biblical standard.

Lawlessness is…1. The Desire to do it your own way. Stubborn steps. Rebellious routes. Roads that lead to destruction but all signs are ignored because of pride and self conceit. It is Cain bringing the fruit of flesh to a God that demanded blood and sacrifice. It is a generation that wants to save itself without a cross. They have altars with staircases into hell. They are stiff-necked and resistant to the commands of their fathers. a. You can’t get them to see it God’s way. They are the blind leading the blind as Jesus stated in Luke 6:39. Their perspective is so tainted that they can’t tell when they are doing wrong as Jeremiah bemoaned in Jeremiah 6:15, “ Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? Nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.” They have no shame. From Distress to Rest Psalm 4 P3

  1. This Psalm started with distress and ends in rest. A journey of prayer takes you from the insecurities of human disappointments and failed formulas to the peaceful residence of Divine safety. In His arms we are free from harm. In his care we have confidence to spare. Within the walls of His grace disturbances are silent, haunting accusers are rendered powerless; death’s sickle is dulled; a demons fury fizzles; what originally distressed you now seems a distant memory in the angel guarded environs of the King of Kings. If you’re in the foreign forest, fear probably rules your mind and keeps your eyes wide and anxious; but if you are in the fortress of truth fear subsides, anxiety takes a break, panic is put on pause and calmness soothes the chaos-plagued heart.
  2. The Hebrew modifier for only is le-ba-dad (which sounds kind of like lay by dad); it describes God as the only true safety and security for the soul. How appropriate that in our worst nightmares our heavenly Father graciously and tenderly calls for us to come and “lay by Dad.” Can you imagine a more restful scenario? Could better comfort be found in any human establishment? What could possibly exceed the protective love and affection of our Heavenly Father? Don’t forget, “God is love.” Sometimes we need to remember that God is not the despotic Sadist looking to gleefully harm the human heart. He loves. He liberates. He leads. And he gives an atmosphere of quiet from the tempests of life that never fails. Listen now…

Good among the Godless Psalm 4 P2

Psalm 4:6  There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. 

  1. It is sometimes difficult to find the good among the godless. Or to see prosperity when you have endured persecution. No one readily cheers, “Hip, Hip, Hooray, for all the pain my enemy has caused me.” Yet in one moment when God smiles upon you; in that one turning moment when his favor is seen despite all the fury enacted against you; it is the confidence booster that the souls desperately needs. His smile negates the adversary’s frown. His favor cancels out the countenance of evil bent on your destruction.
  2. I believe this indicates that the Presence of the Lord literally changes your countenance. It takes the saint from frowns of fear and failure to healthy expressions of joy. This is like ominous clouds breaking away for fresh, warm sunlight.
  3. The word “good” means “that which is pleasing, valuable, or useful.” Prosperity and happiness are also appropriate synonyms. Listen now…

Blessed beyond Distressed Psalm 4 P1

Here me when I call, O God of my righteousness. There is purity in the word righteousness. This is not man’s interpretation of what is right. This is not majority opinion that shapes the new normal of society and therefore, establishes what is deemed right. This is greater than human court systems and those immaculately trained in laws and legislation. This is God as the standard. It is right no matter how it is examined, explained, or experienced.

So, for the Psalmist to call it his own righteousness means that it has been thoroughly examined by the Highest justice and determination of truth and right.

Thou Hast enlarged me when I was in distress.

Your enemy wants to make you bitter. God wants to make you bigger. Bigger than the emotion to quit is the joy of the Lord that sees growth. Larger than lamentations of pain and immobilizing grief is the love of God that expands your ability to minster and witness to a hurting world. It is the mustard seed principle that grows from a speck in the hand to the largest of hedges on the hill. Notice, he enlarged the Psalmist not when he was on top of the world, or right after some thrilling adventure or achievement; or after a bank increase of money and independence.
