Jonah’s direction chased the map of his own making. “He found a ship going to Tarshish”. He was so furiously bitter over God’s orders that he tried to get approximately 2500 miles away in the opposite direction of Ninevah. If God were His general strategically drawing a line of restoration-invasion into Ninevah, Jonah was the AWOL soldier designating his own charter in defiance. You can sail away from God’s will, but don’t expect peace in the middle of the storm; don’t rely on the maps of peace when you’ve gone off the edges, stubbornly insisting on new courses in the uncharted waters of human will; leaving behind the boundaries of obedience for the high seas of pride. You can’t find enough distance between you and the will of God. Run to the other side of the world, and God’s Word still thunders. Chase the rainbows of sin from one fantasy land to another, but truth still exists right around the corner. Run up the star terraced path of the Milky Way at the highest speeds imaginable, but the flag of His Righteousness will already be planted in the darkest corners of the galaxy.
Psa 139:7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
Psa 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
Psa 139:9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Psa 139:10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
Psa 139:11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
Psa 139:12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
You see, there are going to be some days you want to give up; other days you are going to feel give out; questions of how many more bills can I give to; then you are tempted to give in; but for now, my friend, just give Him praise. Give Him praise. Find your purpose. Stay on the path. Listen now…
